Seasonal Activities

Seasonal Activities

Late Spring / Summer / Early Fall

Hiking. Dirty Face mountain is very close and a nice hike. There is a hiking book on the bookshelf.

Swimming. Nice beaches in Lake Wenatchee State Park.

Mountain Biking: Great single-track and logging roads trails abound.

Sailboarding. Lake Wenatchee can get quite windy in May and June in particular.

Kayaking/Waterskiing/Boating. There is a boat launch in the state park. Also, Lake Entiat (Columbia River) and Lake Chelan are approximately a 1 & 1.5 hour drive away respectively.

Fishing. There is great fly & bait fishing in the area. Fish Lake (as the name implies) is a fishing only lake and allows bait fishing.  Fishing boats and gear can be rented at The Cove Resort or Cascade Hideaway. Most of the streams are fly-only. Trout Unlimited stocks an Under-15 Kids’ Fishing Pond near Enchantment Park in Leavenworth.

Golf. Kahler Glen 18-hole Golf Course (private but open for public play) is our favorite and located near south entrance to Lake Wenatchee State Park. Tee times are only necessary on weekends (and even then it’s usually not too crowded). Also, Leavenworth Golf Club (take Icicle Creek Road in Leavenworth) is also open to the public. Leavenworth also has an 18-hole “Championship Putting Course” called Enzian Falls. As the name implies, it is putting only, but it is real grass and some of the holes are Par 4!  (a great family thing). Wenatchee has one of the top-rated public courses in the U.S.:  Desert Canyon

Tennis:  there are public tennis courts in Leavenworth near Cascade High School.

Horseback Riding: There are stables located just inside South entrance to Lake Wenatchee State Park.  Also, there are several riding outfits located near Leavenworth – check the phone book (these may be open earlier/later in season than Lake Wenatchee stables)

River Rafting:  Several river rafting companies operate on the Wenatchee River (typically between Leavenworth and Cashmere).  Check the phone book for numbers. In late summer one can also raft down the upper portions of the Wenatchee River (between Lake Wenatchee & Plain) or you can rent inner tubes in Leavenworth and raft down the Icicle/Wenatchee.

Biking:  There is a great 11+ mile loop bike trail in Wenatchee called the Apple Capital Loop Trail (very similar to the Burke-Gilman).  The paved trail can be accessed from Riverfront Park in Wenatchee and parallels the Columbia River.

Late Fall / Winter / Early Spring

Alpine skiing.  Stevens Pass (28 miles), Mission Ridge (59 miles), or Leavenworth beginner’s Ski Hill (23 miles)

Cross-country skiing. Stevens Pass Nordic Center (25 miles), Lake Wenatchee State Park (5 miles), Kahler Glen Golf Course (5 miles), or the trailhead at the top of Lakeview Drive! (75 yards)

Snowshoeing. A semi-strenuous route for the adventurous is to climb up to the top of Pole Ridge (the cabin sits on Pole Ridge) via the abandoned forest service road located 50 yards up the hill from the cabin.  Note: follow the road East when you hit it. Proceed about ¼ mile and you’ll intersect with a more clearly marked snowmobile route to top.

Snowmobiling. Snowmobiles can be rented at Cascade Hideway, located on North side of Fish Lake. Mountain Springs Lodge offers snowmobile tours. If you have your own, you can connect to a vast trail network just behind the cabin!

Sledding. There is a sled located in the garage.  There are great sledding hills accessible from top of Lakeview Drive (1/4 mile from cabin).

Dog-sledding.  Dog sled tours are available from Alaska Sled Dog Company near Shugart Flat.
